Road Trip! – 10 Ways with Swedish Glass

dsc_0206Also at Kalmar Castle and in what used to be its foremost banquet hall during Johan III’s time, is the now converted temporary exhibition space currently showing 10 Ways with Swedish Glass (May 22 – October 30, 2016). The exhibition was created exclusively for Kalmar Castle and showcases the work of 10 different glass artists.

dsc_0215Glass art seems to be quite the hot ticket as Millesgården in Stockholm also recently showed glass art in their Swedish Contemporary Glass Art exhibition (February 6 – May 8, 2016).

Road Trip! – Kalmar Castle

dsc_0099The first stop during my road trip was in Kalmar. It seems that I have not only traveled quite the distance but that I have also time traveled.

dsc_0103The history of Kalmar castle can be traced back to the 12th century, but it seems that I have traveled into the 16th century – when the medieval castle was redesigned to adopt Renaissance fashions, thus giving its current design.

As I was wandering the castle my imagination went wild. I imagined what life at Kalmar castle would have been like during the different centuries that it was actively being used. What scandals, intrigues and drama took place there? Did I mention that they had/have a dungeon?

dsc_0131The interiors featured beautifully preserved frescos.

dsc_0151Sparse interiors remain but there were still stunningly large and ornate tapestries, as well as portraits to be seen.

dsc_0167I now have some new ideas on how to accessorize a dining table. If only I knew where to get a beautiful peacock and swan to help decorate my own.

Sanrio World Ginza – サンリオワールド ギンザ

DSC_0136I love visiting Sanrio World Ginza as almost everything is pink, glittery and totally girly. カワイイ(kawaii – cute)!

dsc_0146Nearly everything you could possibly imagine and then some, is available at Sanrio World with mainly Hello Kitty but also other cute Sanrio characters. This includes pens, calculators, double-clips, paperclips, erasers, sharpeners, key chains, bedazzled cellphone covers, chargers, porcelain, chopsticks, lunchboxes, lip gloss, beauty products, hand towels, umbrellas, handbags, toiletry cases, suitcase straps, and postcards. The list goes on and on but I thought I’d just mention a few of the things available.

dsc_0140Despite the fact that I don’t like real life cats, I am a fan of Kitty-san. So I decided to pimp up my suitcase by purchasing a fabulous new suitcase strap to replace my tattered old, boring gray one that matched my suitcase to perfection. #oldpersontryingtobeyoungagain

dsc_0147Tasty Hello Kitty biscuits.

dsc_0148Don’t think they’ve forgotten about catering to men as an assortment of stylish Hello Kitty ties are available to the fashion conscious male.
